Name: Annie Lane
Business: A Wedded Bliss
Description of business services, etc.:
I am an ordained minister specializing in Military Weddings. My goal is to help relieve the stress and chaos of marrying into the military by providing affordable, unique, 100% customized wedding ceremonies, 24/7 availability, assisting in all aspects of wedding planning and offering knowledge and assistance to what can be a confusing and overwhelming process.
Most satisfying aspect of your business: Every day is satisfying and full of awe. The biggest reward for me comes after the wedding ceremony. When it is all said and done, I look at my newly married couple and see the smiles on their faces and the love in their eyes. Knowing I had a small piece in helping make their dream a reality brings great satisfaction and joy. To me, there's no better "job".
How long have you been "married to the military": My husband and I are high school sweethearts. He has been active duty for almost ten years and we will be celebrating our fifth anniversary this July.
Children?: Two boys, ages nine and three. Future bull riders!
Your thoughts on Family:
The way I see it, whether we are born into or chose our family isn't relevant. My family is first and foremost in my life, my inspiration and my joy.
Your thoughts on being a Military Spouse:
Few will say being a Military Spouse is easy. It is our life, we chose this path and we are a team. Deployment after deployment, through all the trials and tribulations, joys and sorrows, we remain proud and strong.
Your thoughts on Career:
Your career is what you make it. My career prior to living in El Paso was in Advertising and Marketing. I thought I loved it and some aspects I really miss. However, I've never had a more fulfilling career than being a Wedding Minister.
Your thoughts on Education:
Some days it feels like I'm always going to be in school. Even though I am satisfied with my career, life often throws curve balls and I want to be prepared to come to bat if I need to. I can't say I enjoy school but I do feel proud of myself for continuing my education.
Your thoughts about the current state of the economy:
I feel we are fortunate to have the security of knowing our financial stability isn't at risk while a majority of the civilian population is terrified and is having to endure terrible losses. No, we are not getting rich in the Army but we have a roof over our head, food on the table and comfort in knowing our jobs are secure. We are blessed. I hope and pray the economy can rebound and we, as Americans, can feel more secure in our children's futures.
Your thoughts about the effect of BRAC and living in the El Paso/Fort Bliss area:
We've been stationed here three years and have already seen tremendous growth on Fort Bliss and in El Paso. I can only imagine how the next three years will shape the future of El Paso.
Words to the wise for other military wives....
It can seem like the Military controls 90% of your life once you say I do; where you live, when you see your spouse, etc. Do what you can with the other 10% to make it what you want it to be for you and your family.
If you marry a man or woman who is a soldier, the Army will always come first (especially during "intimate time" when the phone rings and they have to go into work). As much as you try, your dreams and goals will usually come in second. There can be little gratification for the Military spouse, other than a happy husband (or wife)... who will sometimes forget all the sacrifices you have willingly made for them.
Knowing this, don't lose yourself in your marriage or in the Military. Stay true to yourself and do what you can to make the most of every situation and make yourself happy. A happy wife = a happy home. Try your best to keep looking outward, in the same direction, together.
Anything else....
Volunteering is one of the best ways to occupy free time, help others and feel good about yourself!
